Minnesota, MN, was our first destination on our recent travel to the USA and everyone opting to undertake the 13-hour flight is surely not going be disappointed. People say that the first impression is always crucial and Minnesotans have won this game from the get-go. Wonderfully pleasant and always willing to assist, Minnesota natives bring the best out of every nature- loving traveler. Canada, which is in close proximity, must have rubbed off this wonderful folk.
Minnesota / St Paul both took the best from their historical European settlers and that is obviously visible in the subtle city architecture, culture and art scene. Visitors will find upscale lodging, dining and award-winning theater, all in an area with dozens of parks, trails and green space including the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area while those of you with an artsy ''I'm a laid-back European'' attitude can enjoy incredible hostels, taverns and bars across town.
And here's the bonus: folks are attitude-free and the embodiment of 'Minnesota Nice.' Minneapolis is the biggest and artist town in the surrounding area, with all the trademarks of progressive prosperity – swank art museums, rowdy rock clubs, organic and ethnic eateries and edgy theaters.
Minnesota is the perfect state for outspoken outdoors folk who can wet their paddles in the Boundary Waters, where nighttime brings a blanket of stars and the lullaby of wolf howls. Those wanting to get further off the beaten path can journey to Voyageurs National Park, where there's more water than roadway. If that all seems too far-flung, stick to the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St Paul, where you can't miss something cool or cultural happening around every corner.
From quaint small town celebrations to one of the largest state fairs in the nation, there’s an event to attend every weekend no matter the time of year. Simply delighting in local craft beer or enjoying a savoury dish from a local food truck can be cause for celebration.
